SOCIAL MUSIC JAM & EXTENDED
RESPITE ARTS PROGRAM
FOR CHILDREN, YOUTH, & ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
Sponsored by David's Fund of Westwood NJ
Social Music Jam is a therapeutic music group for children with developmental disabilities who have difficulty with social functioning. While engaging in the process of making music, each session is designed to stimulate children's development, encourage socialization with their peers, and to teach appropriate and joyful ways of interacting with others. The goals of the music group over the course of the program include initiating interactions, increasing self-esteem and self-confidence, joining in play, sustaining eye contact, increasing ability to attend, increasing receptive and expressive language, and sharing enjoyment with others. Goals are addressed while playing instruments, taking turns, singing, improvisation, and using props such as a parachute and scarves.
This program is provided by MarbleJam Kids, funded by David's Fund, an endowment for the support and advancement of music therapy
